The Geocore ladies celebrated International Women’s Day by giving us an insight into who inspires them, what the day means to them and their proudest achievements. From Queen Elizabeth and the Suffragettes to media stars, the team all have someone who they admire.

Bev Grace who has worked for Geocore for over twelve years gave us an insight into her thoughts on this special day.

What does International Women’s Day mean to you?

Women have fought and continue to fight to achieve equality and it is important to recognise and acknowledge these struggles but also to focus on the positives that have been gained. A woman stepping out into the world today is a very different place to one our mothers, grandmothers and great grandmothers experienced and accepted.

Why is equality important?

Equality is important as people should be regarded on the person they are and what they bring to their families, work and the ripples of their actions reaching others – not judged because of their gender, beliefs, race, etc. I believe in the right to be able to choose what you do with your life and not be faced with barriers.

Is there a woman who has inspired you?

Leading by example is a term used very often in the workplace – a sign of integrity. I can think of no one who has displayed this quality more than the late Queen Elizabeth II. Every time I cast my mind back to 2021 when the world witnessed the lone figure of the Queen adhering to the Covid social distancing rules, at her husband’s funeral. Clearly leading by example on what must have been a day of immense sadness after losing her husband of 73 years. The Queen could have pulled rank but instead lead by example and adhered to the same rules we were all required to live by at the time.

I find this inspiring to be able to lead when going through such personal struggles. To be strong for those that are not as strong.

Do you have any achievements you’d like to share ?

My important achievements are being married for 39 years and having two sons – the only important thing is family – sometimes people lose sight of this.
